University Teachers Association of Ghana UTAG- University of Education, Winneba branch has released a statement to address the impending strike as things get tensed between the National Labour Commission NLC and the University Teachers Association of Ghana UTAG.
The UTAG embarked on a strike on 2nd August following the poor services government provides for University Teachers and also the failure of government to restore salary level.
An emergency meeting was held on Sunday 15th August 2021 at the local level to update members of UTAG-UEW about the options on the table based on the advice from UTAG’s Lawyers.
However UTAG rejected the proposal by their lawyers to call off the strike and advised the NEC to issue a joint statement with the government to announce the suspension of it’s industrial action as a condition for withdrawal of the court action issued against UTAG by the National Labour Commission NLC subsequent to which negotiations between UTAG and government side will resume.
UTAG-UEW has said that they will continue to withdraw their services from UEW until government comes of clean with their proposals.
