Court strikes out NLC case against UTAG

The Accra High Court has struck out the case which was filed against the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) by the National Labour Commission NLC for embarking on an indefinite strike.

The NLC had decided to discontinue the case they filed against the UTAG after the meeting with the leadership of UTAG yesterday.

Counsel for the NLC , Mr Yehoda Kotey , said the discontinuance of the case was subject to UTAG calling off it’s three week strike per a memorandum of understanding between the government and UTAG.

The Counsel for UTAG, Mr Kwasi Keli-Delataa had said that his client and the government met and agreed on certain terms and have decided that the way to resolve this issue is not in the courtroom.

Mr Bright Wereko-Brobbey, the deputy Minister of Employment and Labour had said that the peaceful resolution of the impasse was a good news for University students.

“It’s a big victory for university students, lecturers, parents and the country as a whole,” he told the media after the court hearing.
